Dutch baseball players receive conference accolades

PELLA — Central College baseball relief pitcher Mark Schroeder (senior, Chariton) was named to the all-Iowa Conference second team Monday and leftfielder Spencer Gritsch (senior, Brooklyn, Iowa, BGM HS) was cited with an honorable mention.

Schroeder finished conference play with a team-best ERA of 3.16 across 25.2 innings on the mound. He went 1-2 in 11 appearances during league games and also had a save on the final day of the season against Loras. Striking out 19 batters and walking just six, Schroeder held opponents to a .232 batting average.

Leading the team with a .309 batting average in conference games, Gritsch drove in 14 runs while scoring 14 of his own. His nine doubles were tied for the most on the team and he also added a home run. Primarily playing left field, Gritsch contributed a .960 fielding percentage.

Central finished the regular season in eighth place with an 7-21 record.
