Maxine Hildred Francis, age 90, of Eddyville, Iowa, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Crystal Heights Care Facility of Oskaloosa. Maxine was born October 3, 1925, to Milo John and Mabel Agnes (Hungate) Whisler in Ottumwa, Iowa.

Maxine attended country school in Davis County. On November 2, 1941, in Lancaster, Missouri, Maxine and Donald D. Francis were united in marriage. They were blessed with 44 years of marriage and four children; Sandra, Dixie, Don, and Dan. Donald passed away on January 7, 1986.

After Donald’s service in World War II, Maxine and Donald moved to Eddyville. Maxine raised her family in Eddyville. Donald and Maxine owned and operated the Francis Grocery for 34 years until their retirement.

Maxine was very active in the Eddyville community. She was a former council member, C C Club, Eddyville Betterment, Eddyville Saddle Club member.

Maxine was a great gardener, an avid quilter, and a former square dancer. Her biggest and most important moments in life were with her family.

Maxine is survived by her children: Sandra (& Larry) Glenn of rural Eddyville, Dixie (& Ed) Hoyt of rural Oskaloosa, Don Francis of Eddyville, and Dan (& Sheila) Francis of Eddyville. Maxine is also survived by 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and 4 great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Milo and Mabel Whisler; her husband Donald; her brother Sonny Whisler; and her sister Vivian Jones.

Funeral service for Maxine will be at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at the First Christian Church of Eddyville. The Eddyville Funeral Chapel is assisting Maxine’s family with services.
Visitation for Maxine will be held from 2:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., Monday, May 9, 2016, at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel of Eddyville.
Flowers and memorials may be given to Maxine’s family.
