Shirley Dickerson, 77, of Sigourney, died Thursday, May 5, 2016, at the Manor House in Sigourney. She was born Saturday, June 18, 1938, in Fairfield, the daughter of Donald E. and Helen D. Sloan Wilson.

Shirley graduated from Ollie High School with the Class of 1956. Following school, Shirley worked as a waitress in her mom’s café in Cedar Rapids. On April 28, 1962, Shirley was united in marriage to Roger B. Dickerson in Lacey, Iowa, they later divorced. Following marriage, Shirley stayed home to raise her family.

Shirley enjoyed crossword puzzles, drawing, spending time with her grandkids, playing poker and watching sports on TV.

Her family includes her three sons: Roger W. Dickerson of Martinsburg, Clarence Dickerson of Sigourney and John (& Marsha) Dickerson of New Sharon; a daughter, Lavada (& Michael) Messerschmitt of Martinsburg; 14 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a half-sister, Laura Wilson of Moline, Illinois; a half brother, Donald Wilson, Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Anna Marie Dickerson; and two sisters: Myrt Wilson and Charlotte Riedel.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 10, 2016, at 10 A.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont.
Burial will be in Woods Cemetery near Lacey.
Visitation will begin Monday, May 9, 2016, after 2P.M. in the Fremont Funeral Chapel with the family present at the funeral chapel Monday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Shirley Dickerson Memorial Fund.
