Oskaloosa–Five seniors from last fall’s Statesmen football team were honored on another national academic scene as the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame announced its 2016 NFF Hampshire Honor Society.

Kalob Gist (Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management), Connor Menown (Springfield, Mo., Physical Education), Kramer Patterson (Ozark, Mo., Secondary Education), Nathan Tvedt (Oskaloosa, Iowa, Business Management), and Devin Verwers (Norwalk, Iowa, Industrial Technology) were all named to the Society which included 868 players from 275 schools within all of the four-year divisions. The 868 award recipients are the most in the 10-year history of the program.

To be eligible for the award, honorees must own a 3.2 Grade Point Average. Individuals must also be a starter or significant contributor, be in their last year of eligibility, and meet all progress towards degree requirements.

Menown, a December graduate, led the quintet in the classroom with a 3.61 GPA, while Verwers is next at 3.49. Patterson (3.43), Tvedt (3.36), and Gist (3.24) also eclipsed the standard.
