Alexander, Seddon Tabbed for Weekly Awards

Oskaloosa–Tarah Alexander (Sr., Cedar, Iowa, Physical Education) and Derek Seddon (Jr., Knoxville, Iowa, Physical Education) led a very strong Statesmen charge last weekend and they were rewarded by being named Heart of America Athletic Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week Monday.

Alexander won her fourth career Track honor (third this year), while Seddon picked up his third career Field accolade (all this season) after performing extraordinarily at the Darrel Gourley Open last Saturday.

Alexander broke her own 1,500-meter run school record in a time of 4:49.71 to place second. She currently tops the Heart in the event.

Seddon was first in the discus (168-1), second in the shot put (51-4.25), and third in the hammer (157-3). His shot put mark moved into the ‘A’ qualifying list. The junior now heads the Heart in the discus and shot put; he is also fourth in the hammer.

WPU now has 11 weekly awards to its credit this year (seven men, four women).

Coertze Earns First POW Honor of Season, Now with Eight for Career

Oskaloosa–Demi Coertze (Sr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Digital Communication) had to wait nearly her entire senior season before claiming a top weekly honor she has garnered so many times before as she was named Heart of America Athletic Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week Monday.

The now eight-time weekly winner (first this season), Coertze was first out of 46 individuals at the Peru State Invitational with a 157 (80-77). The senior helped William Penn to its fifth tournament crown of the year.

Coertze, who now has four individual titles this season, owns a 78.8 stroke average in 20 rounds of action. She has carded 12 rounds in the 70s, including a low of 72.

The award is the fifth of the year for the program.
