Mary Curry, 90, of Oskaloosa passed away Tuesday evening, April 12, 2016, at the MHP Hospice Services Serenity House. Mary Louise Curry was born, January 17, 1926, near Cedar, Iowa to Clarence and Elsie Belle Witt Tucker.

Mary attended school in Cedar and then high school in Oskaloosa. She married Harold Silvers, January 25, 1942, in Kirksville, MO. They made their home in Oskaloosa, where they raised their family.

Mary was employed at Superior Ideal, first in the shop and later as an office secretary. She worked there 43 years and retired in 1988.

Harold passed away in September of 1978. Mary married Robert “Bob” Curry, May 26, 1984, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They too made their home in Oskaloosa.

Mary had enjoyed camping with her husband Harold, and after her marriage to Bob, she introduced him to camping. Over their 32 years of marriage, they owned six campers and enjoyed many relaxing vacations.

Mary was a member of First Church of the Nazarene where she was active in the quilting group for many years. She was a talented quilter in her own right and won blue and purple ribbons on one of the last quilts she entered at the Southern Iowa Fair. Mary was a member of the Mahaska Hospice Auxiliary. She loved to shop, and shoes were her weakness; she also enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, and crossword puzzles.

Mary and Bob moved to Homestead Assisted Living in April 2013, and after breaking her hip she moved to Northern Mahaska Nursing and Rehab. Center in November of that year. Mary was a people person and made friends wherever she lived.

Her family includes her husband, Bob of Oskaloosa; a son, Dennis Silvers of Rochester, MN; two grandchildren: Heidi Malone of Stewartville, MN and Brandon Silvers, of Rochester, MN; three great-grandchildren; a stepson, Bob (& Stacey) Curry Jr. of Lynn Creek, MO; six step-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; a brother, Tom (& Fern) Tucker of Milan, IL; a sister, Hazel (& Don) Hite of New Sharon; two sisters-in-law: Margie Tucker of University Park and Arlene (& Dick) Weidmann of Lake Keomah; a brother-in-law, Ed Mitrisin of Oskaloosa; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Besides her parents and her first husband, Mary was preceded in death by five brothers: Eugene, Bill, Jack, Charles and Dale Tucker and three sisters: Darlene Comstock, Maxine Fisher, and Marjorie Mitrisin.

Funeral services for Mary will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday morning, April 15, 2016, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mark Doll of the Gateway Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from Noon to 6 p.m., Thursday at the funeral chapel. The family will be present from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Services.
