The William Penn University Singers and Jazz Band will present their spring concerts, entitled “Back Stage Canteen” on April 20 and 21, 7:00 p.m. at the Musco Technology Center (MTC) on the William Penn University campus. A salute to the decade of the 1940’s, audience members will be taken back to the days of Abbott and Costello, the Glenn Miller band, and the Andrew Sisters. Doughnuts and coffee will be served, reminiscent of the reception many soldiers received from Red Cross workers during the World Wars.

Musical numbers include such hits as “Don’t Sit Under the Apple tree”, “A string of pearls”, “Sing, Sing, Sing”, “Rose Room”, and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy”, to name a few. William Penn alumni, Dr. Phillip Wise, will join the ensembles on trombone on these toe-tapping evenings.

William Penn Singers director Anita Meinert states, “We are thrilled that Phil is, once again, coming back to Oskaloosa to share his time and talent. It is always a learning experience for the band members and a treat to the listeners.”

A free will offering will be accepted.
