Victim Identified in Mahaska County Death Investigation

MAHASKA COUNTY, Iowa — The victim in the April 7, 2016, death investigation has been identified as Courtney Christine Moore, 24, of What Cheer, Iowa. The person driving the vehicle that struck Moore is Trenton Dwayne Garber, 26, of Montezuma, Iowa. Garber is an ex-boyfriend of Moore.

On the morning of April 7, 2016, the Mahaska County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency 911 call to the Mahaska County 911 Emergency Communications Center. Authorities responded to 1242 Yale Avenue in Barnes City, Iowa for a victim who had been struck by a motor vehicle. An autopsy was performed by the Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner in Ankeny, Iowa. The final autopsy results could take up to 4 to 6 weeks.

This is an ongoing investigation being worked jointly by the Mahaska County Sheriff’s office and the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol (ISP).
