At an early age she was taught that diligence and education would open the doors of opportunity and she could do anything she set her mind to. Her love of politics started as a young child and grew throughout her education. It was cultivated during her dual-credit history class senior year of High school.

She pursued her interest in Political Science by opting to attend a university in the state infamous for being a political battleground, Iowa. She was awarded an athletic and several academic scholarships to attend William Penn University. After graduation, she returned to Texas to receive her Master’s in Political Science from University of Texas at San Antonio. There she studied the link between the judicial decisions and legislative actions.

After graduating with her Master’s she decided to make Mahaska County her home and moved into an old farm house on the outskirts between Oskaloosa and New Sharon. There Valinn and her fiancé, Gary McClun, reside with their three dogs, Akira, Titus, and Paco.
