Skipper, Dizon Tie for Third at Graceland Invite

Maryville, Mo.–The William Penn men’s golf team used two high finishers to get in the top five at the Graceland Invitational Friday and Saturday.

The Statesmen placed fifth out of 14 teams with a two-day tally of 621 (313-308) at the par-72 Mozingo Golf Course. Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) took the crown at 607 (302-305) and also had the top two linksters as Erik Jonasson (74-76) and Anthony Slater (75-75) tied for medalist honors at 150.

Spencer Skipper (Sr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management) posted rounds of 75 and 76, while Brandon Dizon (Jr., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology) carded a 76 and a 75 as they tied for third in the 83-player field at 151.

Frederik Lundsgaard (So., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) was in the top 20 as well, tying for 16th at 156 (79-77). Justin Bothma (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, Business Management) then tied for 42nd at 165 (85-80), while Clay Tucker (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Elementary Education) finished with an 83 on the first day. The junior, who was battling a bad cold, eventually withdrew from competition on Saturday.

The navy and gold also had two individuals playing the Invitational. Kyle Hashimoto (Jr., Acampo, Calif., Exercise Science) tied for 22nd with a pair of 79’s for a final score of 158, and Ben Roberts (Sr., Albia, Iowa, General Accounting) carded an 81 and 82 (163) to tie for 37th.

Next Up: William Penn travels to Kansas City, Mo. Monday and Tuesday to compete in the A.W. Tillinghast Intercollegiate. Action will be contested at Swope Memorial Golf Course.
