Mahaska Health Partnership to Host FREE Cholesterol Class March 31
MAHASKA COUNTY – Are you struggling with high cholesterol or worried about a family history? This is the class for you! Mahaska Health Partnership is offering a free Introduction to Cholesterol class on March 31.
According to MHP Cardiac Rehab Nurse Renee Edgar, this class is for anyone interested in learning about the basics of cholesterol and why it’s so important. “Many people hear cholesterol and know some information about it, but don’t really understand what it really is. This class is a great introduction for someone recently diagnosed with high cholesterol or those who are looking to improve their levels through lifestyle changes.”
“Cholesterol is a type of fat that is found in your blood,” Edgar explained. “It is a vital resource to help your organs and body function properly. Your liver produces it, but you also get cholesterol from foods like meat, cheese, milk, eggs and butter. If you have too much cholesterol in your body, it can clog arteries, causing a heart attack or stroke.”
Edgar stressed the importance of healthy cholesterol and eating habits. “There are often no symptoms of high cholesterol until a major event occurs, so it’s important to practice healthy eating habits and monitor your levels through screenings and regular visits with your primary care provider. This class is a great starting point to improving your health for the long run!”
The class will meet on Thursday, March 31, from 1-3 pm in Education Room A, best accessed through entrance #2 on the MHP campus. Though the class is free, pre-registration is required. Call 641.672.3100 to reserve your spot today!
