(Vivian) Jean McCreery, 84, of Oskaloosa, went to be with the Lord Sunday, February 21, 2016, while being cared for at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Jean was born November 9, 1931, in What Cheer, Iowa, the daughter of Phillip “Jack” and Letha Shisler Beasley.

Jean graduated from Hedrick High School with the class of 1950. Early on she worked at Ottumwa Federal Savings and Loan, Northwest Bell Telephone, and Wilson’s Grocery in Hedrick.

On August 12, 1951, she was united in marriage to Richard “Dick” McCreery at Hedrick. Richard died February 1, 2002. In 1959, the family moved to Oskaloosa.

Jean worked as a secretary, associate for the Oskaloosa Community School District. Last she worked as a library aide at Webster Elementary School retiring from there in 1995.

In retirement, Jean and Dick enjoyed being the care takers at the Nelson Pioneer Farm for eight and a half years. In October of 2002, she moved into Oskaloosa.

Jean attended Fellowship Bible Church. She enjoyed music, camping, and dancing. Her family was very important to her, she always looked forward to spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. As Jean’s need for further care grew, she moved to Maple Ridge (now Homestead) of Oskaloosa and lastly Oskaloosa Care Center. She enjoyed being a resident at both places and participating in various activities.

Her family includes her three children and their spouses: Cindy (& Tom) Jackson of rural Rose Hill, Craig (& Linda) McCreery of rural New Sharon, and Crystal (& Stacy) Swanson of Bondurant; seven grandchildren: Bryan (& Angie) Jackson, Melody (& Kenton) Broadway, Jessica (& Troy) Latcham, Joshua McCreery and friend Jessica, Jennifer (& Jeff) DeWild, Emily Swanson and Grace Swanson; eight great grandchildren: Joelie Broadway, Sawyer Broadway, Silas Broadway, Lauren Jackson, Lane Latcham, Hayden Latcham, Blake DeWild, and Austin DeWild; a sister, Nadine Kerr of Sigourney; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Jean was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers-in-law, Emery Kerr and Raymond McCreery; and a sister-in-law, Bernice McCreery.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 25, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Rodney DeRonde officiating.
Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Wednesday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 5-7 Wednesday evening to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to MHP Hospice Serenity House.
