Mildred Edith White
May 16, 1923 – February 11, 2016
What Cheer, Iowa | Age 92

Mildred White, 92, of What Cheer died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at her home.
Mildred Edith White was born in What Cheer, Iowa on May 16, 1923 the daughter of Earl and Oka Bell Beasley.

Millie was a 1941 graduate of the What Cheer High School. After receiving her teaching certificate Millie rode her horse each day to a country school near What Cheer where she taught for several years.

On October 21, 1944 she was united in marriage to John White at the Presbyterian Church in Sigourney. Together the couple farmed several acres, owned an antique store and Millie worked for twenty years at Amana Refrigeration.

John and Millie had no children of their own so that made Millie the favorite Aunt of many nieces and nephews. Occasionally an adult might get the impression she was a “grouchy old lady”. But through the eyes of a child, Millie was seen as a gracious and kind person. Nieces, nephews, the children in her church and any other child Millie was around will remember the many gifts that came from that grouchy old lady on every holiday, birthday, baptism and graduation.

Throughout her life Millie took pride in her appearance and worked hard for everything she earned. Millie loved to shop for costume jewelry, cheer for the Cardinals and loved the loyalty of her dog, Carrie.

Millie was a member of the What Cheer United Methodist Church where she served on the Ministry & Missions Committee, United Methodist Women, and the Administrative Counsel.

Millie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John White; six brothers: Jim, Earl, Harold, Merle, Russell and Paul Beasley; and four sisters: Irene McKay, Olive McDermott, Maxine Decker and Betty Rodesovich.

She is survived by eleven nieces: Karen (& Jack) Pulford of Chandler, AZ, Charlotte Merman of Chandler, AZ, Betty (& John) Schlomer of Anchorage, AK, Tane (& Wesley) Temple of Quincy, IL, Sherri Hamilton of East Moline, IL, Pam (& Mike) Brown of Andalusia, IL, Donna Roman of Chicago, Il, Judy (& Mark) Pattison of Rock Island, IL, Shirley Jean Beasley Childs of Council Bluffs, IA, Jackie McDermott of Belle Plaine, and Ann (& John) Heisdorffer of Walford, IA; eight nephews: Russell (& Katy) Beasley of Eddyville, Delmer (& Rachel) McKay of Burlington, Pat (& Flo) White of What Cheer, Mike (& Rita) White of What Cheer, Monte McDermott of Chandler, AZ, Earl Beasley III of Rock Island, IL, Lee (& Janet) McKay of Summerville, FL, and Ed White of Prairie Du Chien, WI. Millie also leaves behind many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 am on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at the What Cheer United Methodist Church.
Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior to the service.
As was Millie’s wishes her remains will be cremated and inurned at the White Oak Cemetery near Thornburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made the What Cheer United Methodist Youth Group.
