Harold Christian, 84, of Marshalltown and formerly of Oskaloosa, died Friday, February 12, 2016, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown. He was born March 2, 1931, in Darlington, Missouri, the son of Albert Lester and Sue Chenoweth Christian.

Harold graduated from Stanberry High School in Missouri with the class of 1949. On December 1, 1951, he was united in marriage to Doris Fattig at Grant City, Missouri. To this union three children were born, Michael, Mona, and Mitchell. Harold and Doris later divorced.

Harold entered the United States Army in February of 1952 and served during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged in 1954. Upon his discharge, he returned to Missouri and started his career in sales.

He first worked in retail sales at the general store in Grant City, Missouri and later at Hy-Vee Grocery Store in Missouri and Iowa. For 30 years Harold was an independent salesman traveling all over the mid-west selling work gloves. He enjoyed traveling the country side and meeting with new people through his sales calls. He moved to Oskaloosa in 1961.

Harold enjoyed classic country music and taught himself to play the guitar and sing.

His family includes his three children: Mike (& Brenda) Christian of Tracy, Mona (& Dave Kensinger) Christian of Petersburg, Alaska, and Mitch Christian of West Des Moines; two grandchildren: Abby (& JR) Harris of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Tyler (& Sarah) Christian of Knoxville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister and her husband, Lela and Max Grace.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 15, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Graveside Military Rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and V.F.W.
Burial will be in the Bellefountaine Cemetery near Tracy. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation with the family will be held Monday morning from 9 until service time at 10.
Memorials may be made to the Bellefountaine Cemetery Association.
