Marilyn McCain, 88 of New Sharon passed away February 1, 2016. Marilyn D. McCain was born in the fall of 1927 in Montezuma, Iowa to Paul and Janet Gregson.

Marilyn graduated from New Sharon High School in 1944. In October 1945, she accepted office employment at Bankers Life in Des Moines, Iowa and later at Iowa Farm Mutual Insurance Company, also in Des Moines until April 1951.

She married Dwight A. McCain on June 17, 1951. With his induction into the Army in November 1951, she returned to her position in Des Moines until the summer of 1953. She worked as Administrative Assistant for the ASCS office (now FSA) Department of Agriculture in Oskaloosa, retiring after 32 years, in 1986.

She was a member of the Methodist Church in New Sharon and a former member of Prairie Knolls Country Club. Also a member of Clio Rebekah Lodge #182 in New Sharon for many years, she served several years as Noble Grand, and a member of the Past Noble Grand Club and 50 plus club. A member of NARFE, a national association of Retired Federal Employees and an honorary life member of NASCOE, a national association of ASCS County Office Employees.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed extensive world travel after retirement, having visited Jordan, Israel, and Egypt in 1998, three trips to Europe in 1990, 1992, and 1994 touring eleven countries and, in 1995 she visited Australia and New Zealand. Italy was her favorite country.

She is survived by her son, Marc Alan of New Sharon; two sisters in law: Marilyn Gregson of Olympia, Washington, and Francine White of Oskaloosa, Iowa; three nieces; and a nephew.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dwight in March of 1984; and brother, Paul Gregson in October of 2014.

As per Marilyn’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and no visitation or service will be held.
