Wayne Lee McFarling, 81, of Ottumwa and formerly of Hedrick, died Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Ridgewood Specialty Care in Ottumwa. Wayne was born Friday, June 1, 1934, in Ottumwa, the son of Harold A. and Marie E. Smith McFarling.
Wayne graduated from Hedrick High School. Following graduation, Wayne enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 20 years of service. He later worked at Von’s Grocery in California for 17 years as the frozen food, dairy and deli manager. In 1982, Wayne was united in marriage to Marion Angerhoffer. They moved to Hedrick in the early 90’s.
Wayne is survived by his wife of over 34 years, Marion McFarling of Ottumwa; a son, Dan (& Joan Wasilewski) McFarling of West Hazleton, Pennsylvania; a daughter, Nicole Cass of Aurora, Colorado; three stepsons: Greg Hawkinson and Roger Hawkinson of California, and Mark Hawkinson of New Mexico; 10 granddaughters; a great granddaughter; and a sister, Marilyn Braham of Ottumwa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Carolyn Ballou; and four brothers: Michael, Allen, Larry and Dennis McFarling.
Funeral services will be held Friday, February 5, 2016 at 11 A.M. in Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont with Reverend Jane Martinez officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, February 5, 2016 from 10 A.M. until service time at 11 A.M. and the family will be present during that time to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
