Helen P. Goemaat, 94, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born Saturday, October 1, 1921, in Mahaska County, the daughter of Andrew and Nellie Kennedy Cubit.

On August 8, 1942, Helen was united in marriage to Jake E. Goemaat in Lancaster, Missouri. Jake died February 9, 2007.

Following marriage, Helen and Jake farmed near Cedar, Rose Hill and lastly around the Union Mills area for 30 years until moving to Oskaloosa in 1987.

Helen was a member of Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. She enjoyed cooking, baking, fishing, crocheting, gardening and most of all, being with her children and grandchildren.

Helen is survived by her son, Gary (& Cheryl) Goemaat of New Sharon; three daughters: Linda Foster of New Sharon, Chris Nieuwsma of Oskaloosa and Becky (& Ken) Rozenboom of Oskaloosa; 10 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; two brothers: Walter (& Mary Lou) Cubit of Oskaloosa and Andrew (& Mary) Cubit, Jr. of Michigan; and a sister, Norma Snyder of Oskaloosa.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a son, Allen Goemaat; a son-in-law, Daryl Nieuwsma; two sisters: Wilda Wharton and Beulah Petersen; three brothers: John, Herb and Vern Cubit; and a brother in infancy.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 10 A.M. at Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jon Nelson officiating.
Burial will be in the Union Mills Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, January 29, 2016 after 12 noon in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral chapel Friday from 5 – 7 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Central Reformed Church.
