Waverly/Dubuque–The women’s indoor track and field squad produced several top results as it competed in a pair of meets Friday and Saturday.

William Penn was second out of what turned into a dual against Wartburg at the Wartburg Relays, falling 329-34, and then placed eighth out of 11 programs at the Dubuque Sol Butler Classic with 30.5 points. Cornell won the Dubuque meet with 91 points.

At Wartburg, throwers Meaghan Foster (Sr., Centerville, Iowa, Physical Education) and Kristin Lastovka (Sr., Brooklyn, Iowa, Business Management) both fared well. Foster was second twice, throwing the shot put a distance of 40-9 and the weight throw to a mark of 46-4. Lastovka was fourth in both events (37-1.25 in the shot put, 38-9 in the weight throw).

Alora Simmons (Sr., Newton, Iowa, Elementary Education) matched Foster with a silver of her own, hitting a high jump mark of 4-9.75.

At Dubuque, Foster was again a high finisher on two occasions (2nd, shot put, 42-2; 4th, weight throw, 44-0), but it was Tarah Alexander (Sr., Cedar, Iowa, Physical Education) who had the best showing. The senior, who made her season debut Saturday, broke her own school record with a one-mile run time of 5:41.81; Alexander was fifth overall.

Taylor Richardson (Fr., Oskaloosa, Iowa) gave the program’s long jump mark a run for its money as well in her first collegiate jumping competition. The freshman was third at 16-10.

Lastovka was again fourth in the shot put at 37-7.25, while Simmons finished seventh in the high jump at 4-9.

“The team faced a lot of adversity today, but managed to keep their heads and put together a solid showing overall,” Head Coach Allen Friesen said. “I am very proud of all of them.”

Next Up: William Penn returns to Waverly next Saturday to compete in Wartburg’s Chelsey M. Henkenius Open.
