MAHASKA COUNTY – To meet the community’s request for more convenience, Mahaska Health Partnership has expanded Walk-In availability in the Medical Group.

New Walk-In hours are Monday through Friday from 7 am to 8 pm; Saturday from 7 am to 5 pm; and Sunday from 11 am to 5 pm. Walk-In, located on the lower level of the Medical Group, is also open most holidays. This New Year’s Eve, it is open from 7 am to 3 pm and on New Year’s Day, from 9 am to 3 pm.

Family Nurse Practitioner Eva Sietsema has discontinued her primary care medical practice to serve as the lead provider for Walk-In, which focuses on acute issues, ONE per visit, for patients six months and older. The Walk-In provider will coordinate with the patient’s primary care provider for ongoing care needs. No appointment is needed and you do not need to be a patient of the Medical Group to use this service.

“Walk-In is for injuries or illnesses that need prompt medical attention, but do not need the level of care provided in the Emergency Department,” MHP CEO Jay Christensen said. “It is designed to offer easy access with prompt and professional care for times when an appointment is not available.”

Christensen stressed that Walk-In services are not intended to replace routine care with the patient’s primary care provider and it is not a substitute for emergency care. Typical reasons to use Walk-In could include sprains and strains, sore throats, ear aches, rashes, colds and coughs, fever, body aches, minor infections, minor burns, vomiting and diarrhea, cuts and suture removal.

“The cost of a Walk-In visit is the same as the cost for a regularly scheduled visit with your primary care provider at MHP,” Christensen said. “MHP does not charge extra for use of Walk-In. If you are referred for lab or radiology tests during your visit, these may result in an additional charge.”

Walk-In is held on the lower level of the Medical Group; best accessed through door #4 on the north side of MHP’s campus in Oskaloosa. Hours are published on the MHP website, mahaskahealth.org and can be checked by calling 641.676.WALK (9255). Patients will be checked in until 15 minutes prior to the scheduled closing time.
