Oskaloosa Middle School students, Theodore Torees, second from left, and Rylee Ebelheiser, were named students of the trimester by Oskaloosa Optimist Club President Jane Krutzfeldt, left, and middle school principal Andy Hotek, far right.

Oskaloosa Optimists honored a pair of sixth grade students from Oskaloosa Middle School. Rylee Ebelheiser and Theodore Torres earned the award.
Oskaloosa Middle School Principal Andy Hotek and Optimist Club President Jane Krutzfeldt presented the awards during the club’s weekly meeting at Smokey Row on Nov. 25.

Oskaloosa Optimists have honored middle school students since the mid-1990s. Students are nominated by staff and Hotek and vice principal Mark Scholes make the selections. Each student is awarded a plaque and their names are etched on a plaque that hangs outside the spectator gym at the middle school. The students and immediate family were guests of the club at the breakfast meeting.

Oskaloosa Optimists meet each Wednesday morning at Smokey Row at 7 a.m. The club is a youth service organization with more than 70 clubs in Iowa. For information on the club, contact R.D. Keep, 641-673-0123.
