PELLA — Central College safety Zach Matter (junior, Ankeny) was named to the D3football.com All-West Region second team defense Monday.

It is the fourth consecutive season that a Dutch player has received the honor and the third year in a row for a defensive player.

Matter was tied for second in the Iowa Conference with four interceptions and was fourth with 12 passes defended. Matter racked up 57 tackles this season, including 23 solos. He also had a fumble recovery.

A first-team all-conference selection, Matter was twice named the league’s defensive player of the week after snaring two interceptions in games against Monmouth (Sept. 12) and Luther (Oct. 10). His performance against Monmouth also earned D3football.com team of the week recognition.

The Dutch finished the season 6-4 overall and 4-3 in conference play.
