PELLA — Central College women’s track athlete Abi Davis (senior, West Des Moines/Dowling Catholic HS) was named the Iowa Conference female athlete of the week while two additional Central athletes received conference performer of the week honors in their respective sports Tuesday.

Ryan Vandall (junior, Phoenix, Ariz./Moon Valley HS) was named wrestling performer of the week and Cole Decker (senior, Des Moines/Dowling Catholic HS) was named men’s track performer of the week.

Davis runs past the competition—A two-time All-American in indoor track in the 60 meters, Davis showed good form already this season, winning the event in 7.69 seconds at the Dutch Holiday Preview. It is the fastest time in Division III this season. Davis was also a member of the 4×400 meter relay squad that won the event in 3:59.6, the third fastest time in Division III. Davis is now a ten-time league performer of the week and this is the third time she has been named athlete of the week.

Vandall is perfect—Vandall went 4-0 on his way to the 165-pound title at the Milwaukee School of Engineering Invite, recording two falls in the process. He also won his match in a dual against Augustana (Ill.) for a perfect 5-0 week. Vandall has now won three individual tournament titles this season and has a 13-1 record.

Vandall and the Dutch are back in action Thursday, a 7 p.m. dual with St. Olaf (Minn.) in Northfield, Minnesota.

Decker sets personal best—Decker won the 3,000-meter race at the Dutch Holiday Preview in 8:35.01, the fastest time in Division III by eight seconds. It’s a new personal best for Decker and he has now been named conference runner of the week five times.

The Dutch track squad will run next at the Cornell Invitational Jan. 23 in Mount Vernon.
