LINCOLN, NEB. — Scoring was plentiful Friday night in the Central College men’s basketball 122-93 victory over Greenville (Ill.), as the Dutch put six players in double figures.

In a fast-paced contest, the Dutch (4-0) were the first team to hold Greenville (1-4) under 100 points this season.

“Our defensive game plan was great,” coach Craig Douma said. “The guys battled and it was a good win for our program.”

Central was up just 55-50 at halftime before exploding in the second half for 67 points, holding the Panthers to just 43.

“In the second half we did a great job of getting the ball up the floor and getting to the basket,” Douma said.

The Dutch did most of their work inside, making just six 3-pointers on 26 attempts. Central shot 53 percent for the game, compared to the Panthers’ 30 percent.

Central had to use its bench depth to keep up with Greenville.

“Coach (Joe) Steinkamp did a great job with lineup changes,” Douma said. “We pieced together the right personnel and did a lot of switching five in and five out.”

Junior forward Ryan Kunkel (Solon, Iowa) led the way with 26 points for Central, a career high, adding 12 rebounds for his second double-double this season.

“Ryan did a great job finishing around the basket,” Douma said. “The other players did a nice job of finding him some open looks.”

Junior forwards Colby Taylor (Creston, Iowa) and Austin Glawe (Aurelia, Iowa/Sioux Central HS) tallied double-doubles, Taylor with 19 points and 11 boards and Glawe at 18 points and 10 rebounds. It’s Taylor’s first of the season and 13th of his career, while Glawe got to the mark for the first time in his first year at Central.

“Austin did a great job of rebounding the ball,” Douma said. “He gave us some great minutes off the bench.”

Sophomore forward Austin Konsor (Underwood, Iowa) had a career-high 19 points and grabbed five boards. Sophomore guards Kyle Smith (Ionia, Iowa/New Hampton HS) and Trashawn Boyd (Normal, Ill./University HS) were both in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Nick Drucker set a career best in assists with seven.

The Dutch will have to recover quickly, playing another fast-paced team in Nebraska Wesleyan Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

“They play fast and have kids who can shoot the ball,” Douma said. “It will be a tough game for us to turn around and play fast again tomorrow.”

The coaches kept that in mind Friday.

“We controlled the players’ minutes tonight,” Douma said. “We didn’t have anyone play over 21 minutes. Hopefully that can help us tomorrow.”
