Oskaloosa–The William Penn men’s basketball team had incredible starts in both halves as it ran away from Oak Hills Christian (Minn.) 124-57 in non-conference play Friday.

Seven players reached double figures and William Penn (7-1) ran its winning streak to seven games. The victory marks the third time this season that the navy and gold have eclipsed the century mark.

WPU scored the first 17 points of the contest en route to leading 69-25 at intermission over the Wolfpack (1-7). With the game well in hand, the reserves stepped to the forefront in the second stanza and continued to pour it on.

When it was all said and done, the Statesmen outshot OHC 58.0%-35.4% and also held a massive 59-26 edge in rebounds. A total of 19 three-pointers were made (out of 36 tries), including five by Jake Guenther (Sr., Altoona, Iowa, Secondary Education) as part of his 15 points (5-for-6 3-PT).

Jessie Pernell (Sr., North Augusta, Ga., Physical Education) was the team leader in scoring with 16 points in addition to a pair of steals. Jesse Utt (Jr., Cowgill, Mo., Industrial Technology) was next with 15 points, all in the second half.

Shane Bosek (Sr., Lowry, Minn., Physical Education), with 14 points, Brady Burford (Sr., Chicago, Ill., Physical Education), with 13, Kevin Smith (Jr., Baltimore, Md., Physical Education), with 11, and Steven Roundtree (Sr., Jacksonville, Fla., Physical Education), with 10, also produced double-figure performances.

The team’s leading scorer, Dondre Alexander (Jr., Iowa City, Iowa, Physical Education) ended the night with just nine points, but was effective as a passer with seven assists.

Josh Caldwell (Sr., Denver, Colo., Physical Education) and Sam Sykes (Sr., Houston, Texas, Business Management) also contributed six points each in the win.

The Statesmen were strong at the line as well with an 11-for-14 effort. They also committed just nine turnovers, while forcing the Wolfpack into 13 mistakes on the other end. All 14 Statesmen who stepped onto the hardwood Friday night came away with points.

Next Up: William Penn remains in Oskaloosa Saturday to host Crossroads (Minn.) in a non-conference matchup at 3 p.m.
