Parking and Safety

This year’s parade is Thursday, December 3rd at 7:00 pm at Oskaloosa Downtown Square. The parade route will remain the same as it has been in the past. See map below. Please note the parking restrictions below. The Oskaloosa Main Street and Area Chamber, Oskaloosa Police Department and City Officials want everyone to be safe and enjoy this year’s 28th annual Lighted Christmas Parade.

Here are some friendly reminders: First, due to safety concerns the Oskaloosa Main Street/Chamber and the City will be implementing a strict policy of keeping the public a safe distance from the floats along the parade route, especially on High Avenue from 3rd Street up to Market Street. As a precaution, event officials will ban all parking on High Ave. from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday, December 3. The standing area on High Avenue will be coned off again this year in an effort to maintain a safe and larger operating area for the floats along the parade route. We are asking that all patrons of the parade observe the parade from behind the cones. One of our major concerns are the children who tend to gravitate towards the floats. Please keep a watchful eye out for your children.

Due to construction, parking will be banned from 4:30 to 9:00 on 1st Ave. between 1st St and 2nd Street.

A final item of note for this year’s event is the throwing or handing out of candy. As in years past, candy should only be handed to children by adults walking the parade route. The enforcement of these rules is for the safety and benefit for you as a patron of the event and for the operators of the floats driving the parade route.

The Oskaloosa Police Department will be shutting down and barricading all access to the downtown at 6:30pm.

Below you will find a map of the parade route so you can plan ahead on where you would like to be this year.

Float winners will be announced at 6:30 at our new event “An Old Fashioned Christmas Festival” held in the Penn Central Mall Friday, Dec. 4th from 4:00 to 9:00. For more information see www.oskaloosachamber.org.
