Marshall, Mo.–The William Penn women’s soccer team suffered a shaky second half in falling 3-0 to #19 Missouri Valley in Heart of America Athletic Conference play Saturday.

After holding MVC scoreless in the first 45 minutes, William Penn (5-8, 2-5 Heart) tried to open up its offense, but unfortunately that left the visitors vulnerable and the Vikings (10-2-3, 4-2-2 Heart) took advantage with goals in the 53rd, 76th, and 88th minutes.

Alyce Correia (Jr., Perth, Australia, Elementary Education) and AnnaMarie Urps (Fr., Wilton, Calif., Physical Education) both managed one shot as WPU was outshot 16-2.

Adriana Borjon (Jr., Willits, Calif., Exercise Science) kept the contest close with five saves, including four after the break.

“I am very proud of the effort shown today by the girls,” Head Coach Willie McGowan said. “We never gave up and played to a game plan early on which was working. At halftime, we wanted to be more aggressive and sadly that may have opened up a few gaps which were exploited.”

Next Up: William Penn returns to Oskaloosa next Tuesday to host Simpson in non-conference action at 7 p.m.
