Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush brought his message of disrupting the Washington political machine to Oskaloosa Wednesday afternoon. Bush spoke to a packed crowd at Smokey Row Wednesday afternoon, often times promising to disrupt the status quo. “The power of Washington needs to shrink so we can be empowered to live lives of purpose and meaning,” Bush said. “There’s a legitimate reason why people are angry. But I believe I can disrupt the old order in Washington, DC because I did it when I was governor of the state of Florida,” Bush also said.

Bush touted his record as Governor of Florida, noting he turned around many areas of Florida that were ranked 50th in the nation. “Everybody else said ‘thank god for Florida, they’re 50th,’” Bush said. Bush also noted that during the eight years he was Governor of Florida, the economy grew at 4.4% and led the nation in job creation.

Talking about foreign relations, Bush said the country needs leadership. Bush suggested that the US had “stepped back” on the fight against ISIS and the Assad regime. “Every country that we have relied on as being a friend no longer trusts the United states,” Bush said. Bush said he would restore America’s leadership in the world “not as a war monger, but as a leader that creates peace and security.”

After delivering his stump speech, Bush answered questions from those present, ranging from the second amendment to the Affordable Care Act.

After the town hall style meeting, Bush spoke with Oskaloosa News about how his policy would impact small-town Iowa like Oskaloosa.

Bush says that by growing the economy in general will help everyone, but says that “The farm economy is jeopardized just as much as industrial sectors and other places by regulation.”

Bush was using the waters act as a drain on the farming economy and says that a balanced view towards that regulation. Free trade agreements can create big advances in the export markets “for the most productive agriculture in the world, right here.”

“In shifting power back to states and communities is another way. Washington’s not the end all be all,” says Bush.

Maintaining the dominance in agriculture is important says Bush.

According to Real Clear Politics, Bush currently has an average polling number of 6.7%, which is sixth in the state. A recent NBC/Wall Street Journal poll had Bush polling in fourth place at 7%, behind Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and Carly Fiornia.

The 2016 Iowa caucuses will be held on Monday February 1st.
