Co-Medalists Help Statesmen Claim First Title of Season

Pella–Spencer Skipper (Sr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management) and Justin Bothma (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, Business Management) tied for the low round of the tournament as the William Penn men’s golf team won the Central Shootout Saturday.

The Statesmen were first out of nine teams with a one-day tally of 307 at the par-72 Bos Landen Golf Course. WPU’s second team was seventh at 333.

Skipper and Bothma each carded 74 to guide the 53-player field. It is Skipper’s third collegiate title (second this fall) and the first for Bothma.

Joshua Snyman (Fr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Business Management) also placed in the top 10, tying for 10th at 79. Frederik Lundsgaard (So., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government), who tied for 16th at 80, and Brandon Dizon (Jr., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology), who tied for 24th at 83, wrapped up WPU’s varsity play.

It is the second year in a row that William Penn has won a team title.

John Baumunk (Jr., Sherrard, Ill., Business Management) led the linksters from the second squad, sharing eighth place with a score of 78. Kyle Hashimoto (Jr., Acampo, Calif., Exercise Science) was next in a tie for 21st at 82, while an 84 was signed for by Clay Tucker (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Elementary Education) to tie him for 29th. Charlie Hayes (Jr., Whitesboro, Texas, History/Government) (T-41st, 89) and Zach Swink (Jr., Burlington, Iowa, Sociology) (T-49th, 94) also competed at the Shootout.

Next Up: William Penn gets right back on the course next Wednesday by traveling to Indianola to play in the Simpson Invitational. Play will be contested at Indianola Country Club.
