Doug Stanton, 74 of New Sharon passed away Friday evening, September 25, 2015 at the Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Melvin Doug Stanton, the son of Carl and Mary (Huckleberry) Stanton, was born on June 18, 1941 in Sioux City, Iowa.

Doug received his associated degree in Drug and Alcohol Abuse Counseling at DMACC in 1983. On January 31, 1986, he was united in marriage to Debbie Lloyd. Doug worked a few years as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor before returning to what he loved to do most, trucking. Doug drove truck for 41 years before retiring in 2003.

He enjoyed figure 8 racing, fishing, watching and supporting his grandchildren’s and nephew’s sporting activities. Doug was an avid North Mahaska Warhawk fan and enjoyed watching the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Iowa Hawkeyes. He absolutely loved spending time with his family and taking his daughters on truck rides. Doug was a member of the Second Chance Motorcycle Club in Ottumwa.

His memory will be honored by his wife, Debbie Stanton of New Sharon; his three children: Rick (& Deb) Stanton of Valley, Nebraska, Sarah Stanton of New Sharon, and Brandie Stanton of New Sharon; six grandchildren: Aaron, Alex, Jaden, Treyton, Katelyn and Brooklynn; three brothers: Jim (& Cora Ann) Stanton of Hinton, Iowa, Gus Huckleberry (& Chris Feenstra) of Plainview, Minnesota, and Dean Garoutte (& Nancy) of Canada; and several nieces, nephews and friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda Jenkins; and a brother, Ronnie Stanton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Tuesday, September 29, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in New Sharon.
Visitation will begin after 12:00 pm on Monday, September 28, 2015 with the family present from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the North Mahaska Football Program.
