The Oskaloosa JV football went to Winterset Monday night to try and avenge a 0-44 loss 3 weeks ago. The Indians did just that by winning 13-7 in overtime improving to 3-1 on the season. The Indians offense was able to move the ball at times in the 1st half but was not able to sustain a drive and score until with 12 seconds left in the half. That is when Tucker Nunnikhoven threw a 37 yard touchdown pass to J’von Harris on a 4th and 15 to take the lead 6-0 going into halftime. The JV defense was relentless the entire 1st half holding Winterset to just 1 first down. The Osky offense got the ball to start the 2nd half, and after a kickoff return by Nunnikhoven set up their opening drive right at the 50 yard line. The offense moved the ball down to the 10 yard line but fumbled going into the end zone and the ball went out of bounds for a Winterset touchback. The defense went back to work stuffing Winterset over and over again. Keaton DeKock came up with 2 big fumble recoveries one caused by a Richard Phillips tackle to spoil drives for Winterset. Winterset did get into the end zone with about 2 minutes left on an interception return, but the Indian defense led by Nathan Lobberecht blocked the extra point to keep the game tied at 6-6. There ended up being several turnovers in the last 2 minutes with DeKock picking off 2 passes to again stop Winterset. The game went into overtime and the offense was up first. On a 4th and 4, Zuhayer Mamun punched it into the end zone and then after the Jacob Kime kick made the score 13-7. Winterset then sent their offense out for their turn. The Indian defense came up huge again with two stops inside the 1 yard line to win the game. The JV team plays again Monday night at home vs Chariton with kickoff scheduled for 5:30.
