Irene Mae Maudlin, 90, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa. Irene was born Sunday, January 18, 1925, the daughter of F. Dale and Rosa Chilcote Ruttan, in Monroe County, Iowa.

Irene graduated from the Eddyville High School with the Class of 1944. She then attended William Penn College and received her teaching certificate. She taught at rural schools for 4 years prior to her marriage.

On August 9, 1948, Irene was united in marriage to Donald C. Maudlin in Sigourney, Donald died November 24, 2002.

Irene enjoyed traveling on bus tours, gardening, flowers, puzzles and going to flea markets and auctions.

Her family includes a daughter, Joyce (& Gary) McDaniel of Oskaloosa; a son, David (& Cheryle) Maudlin of Barnes City; three grandsons: Douglas (& Lori) McDaniel, Brad (& Deb) McDaniel and Jeremiah Maudlin; two great grandchildren: Alec McDaniel of Pleasant Hill and Fiona McDaniel of Oskaloosa; three sisters: Ruth (& Glen) Stout of Des Moines, Opal Regenitter of Marcus, Iowa and Jean (& Leonard) Belzer of Pleasant Hill; and a brother, Willis Ruttan of Eddyville.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sisters: Frances Steen and Louise Van Zante; and a brother, Floyd Ruttan.

Graveside funeral services and burial will held Monday, September 28, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. in Forest Cemetery in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
A procession will form at the Bates Funeral Chapel on Monday morning at 9:40 A.M. for those wishing to go to the ceremony.
Visitation will be held Sunday after 11 A.M. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be present at the funeral Chapel Sunday from 1 – 3 P.M. to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to the MHP Hospice Serenity House.
