Boonville, Mo.–The William Penn men’s golf team was unable to hold onto its opening day lead as it took second at the Central Methodist Open Tuesday and Wednesday.

The Statesmen finished second with a two-day tally of 596 (294-302) at the par-71 Hail Ridge Golf Course.

After topping the leaderboard following the first 18 holes, WPU unfortunately faltered just enough to allow host Central Methodist to claim the title at 595 (299-296).

In addition to the squad crown, the Eagles had the individual medalist with Jacob Williams at one-over 143 (70-73).

Frederik Lundsgaard (So., Jebjerg, Denmark, History/Government) was in the mix with an even-par 71, but he, like his teammates found the course a bit more difficult Wednesday. The sophomore still managed to tie for second in the 36-player field at 147 (71-76).

Spencer Skipper (Sr., Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, Business Management) and Justin Bothma (Sr., Boksburg, South Africa, Business Management) were in the top five as well, tying for fourth at 149; Skipper shot 76-73 and Bothma carded rounds of 72 and 77.

Fellow varsity members Brandon Dizon (Jr., San Leandro, Calif., Sociology) (75-79) and Joshua Snyman (Fr., Johannesburg, South Africa, Business Management) (78-76) narrowly missed the top 10, tying for 11th at 154.

A trio of Statesmen individuals also teed off at the Open. John Baumunk (Jr., Sherrard, Ill., Business Management) tied for 11th at 154 (78-76), while Clay Tucker (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Elementary Education) tied for 15th at 155 (79-76) and Kyle Hashimoto (Jr., Acampo, Calif., Exercise Science) tied for 19th at 157 (75-82).
