Tyler Jordan Sash, 27, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at his home in Oskaloosa. He was born May 27, 1988, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Michael and Barney Fentzlaff Sash.
Tyler graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 2007. He furthered his education at the University of Iowa.
Tyler was a dedicated athlete from the time he was very young. He was always looking to better himself, be it on the basketball court or on the football field. He was a standout track runner, football and basketball player at Oskaloosa High School and he loved being an Oskaloosa Indian. His dedication to football and athletics was rewarded when he earned a scholarship to the University of Iowa to play football. His football career at Iowa is highlighted in the record books at the university. He was drafted by the New York Giants and was a member of the 2011 Super Bowl Championship team.
Tyler’s leadership and drive on and off the football field was at a level few could rival. He gave tirelessly of his time and talent to positively influence those around him. He was always looking to give back to his community and wanting to help any way he could. He was always positive and eager to seek what the Lord had planned for him.
Tyler enjoyed having the latest technology, collecting shoes, target practice, and fishing and camping at the river with Larry Harvey. Not only was Tyler an outstanding athlete, he was also a loving son, brother and uncle that most of all loved spending time with his family, especially his nieces, nephews and Heather and her daughter Haelyn.
His family includes his parents, Michael and Barney Sash of Oskaloosa; a brother and his wife, Josh and Analeigh Sash of Ottumwa; a sister and her husband, Megan and Michael Wieland of Winthrop, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Tandon and Tayson Sash, and Kale, Brielle, Westin, and Braden Wieland. He also leaves behind many aunts, uncles, cousins, fans, and his beloved dog Bella.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 11, 2015, 1:30 p.m. at the Oskaloosa Community Stadium on the Lacey Complex in Oskaloosa, with Reverends Rodney DeRonde and Bryan Latchaw officiating.
Private family burial will be held in the Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Thursday morning at 11 a.m. in the Fellowship Bible Church in Oskaloosa and continue until 9 p.m.
