Oskaloosa, Iowa – The Oskaloosa Community Theater (OCT) has been regrouping itself for the past year, but on Thursday night members came together to perform at the Bandstand in the Central Park.

The performers presented their production of “Pyramus and Thisbe” at 8pm to a crowd of approximately 25. Andy McGuire said that the cast began rehearsing for the production on July 9th, and chose to perform at the Bandstand in an effort to help bring more events downtown. McGuire sits on the board of OCT.

The story of”Pyramus and Thisbe” was the basis for “Romeo and Juliet”, and was written by Shakespeare in 1597. The same basic story has been utilized by many writers since, in various iterations of ill-fated relationships.

The production was easily accomplished for the limited performers and crew available at the time. Twenty minutes was the target time in order to make it feasible for the performers in the time frame available.

McGuire said, “We’ve got a pretty good group here.”

The hope is to continue building off the evening’s success.
