BaconTown 2015 Presidential Ballot Surprises
Sanders edges Clinton. Carson and Fiorina with strong support
The KIIC Bacon Bits Ballot at the 2015 BaconTown event Saturday in Ottumwa showed hope for a few lesser known candidates. BaconTown is a bacon and brewfest featuring more than 30 vendors and 53 bacon items – all using Cargill Pork supplied bacon. In the Bacon Bits Ballot, “Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders ran neck and neck with Hillary Clinton all night but it looks like Sanders may have come out ‘a bacon bit’ ahead” according to Joe Milledge, owner of KIIC-FM and organizer of the BaconTown event.
On the republican side, organizers had to go after more mason jars after Donald Trump’s jar filled up and spilled over during the event. Finishing second was Ben Carson. Many of the other candidates failed to register much on the bacon bits measuring scale.
Attendees would have cast their teaspoon of bacon bits following Thursday’s Republican Fox debate, and after much of the news fallout concerning Trump’s dust up with Fox’s Megyn Kelly. Milledge was surprised at the interest in the poll. “We didn’t know what to expect, but people seemed to be engaged and really wanted to participate.”
