MAHASKA COUNTY – Saturday, Aug. 1 was a beautiful day to participate in the 5th Annual “Run in the Sun” and help raise money for the Mahaska Health Partnership Hospice Serenity House.

According to MHP Marketing and Development Director Cathy Stahl, more than 300 people participated in the race, held at the Lacey Recreation Complex Stadium. “Thanks to the Run in the Sun Committee members, we had 36 Corporate and Major Sponsors, and 13 Partner and Community Sponsors, which helped us raise $10,600. We will be including funds raised from participants and announce a total amount, after expenses, in the next few weeks.”

One special sponsor was Mahaska Rural Water, which gave $2,000 to the event. Manager Randy Pleima said his company received matching funds from its corporate office. While Mahaska Rural Water doesn’t normally sponsor events, Pleima said his board and customers felt strongly about supporting such a great community service as the Serenity House.

MHP CEO Jay Christensen talked about the Hospice Serenity House and what an important resource it is in the community. “I believe we have the best hospice staff in

the region, and they truly make healthcare personal for our hospice patients and their families,” Christensen said. “Since opening in 2010, the Hospice Serenity House has served more than 350 patients and their families.”
