The end of an era made for an easy #1 story on the 2014-2015 list.

William Penn joined the Midwest Collegiate Conference and Mid-States Football Association Midwest League in the fall of 2001 and ended that successful love affair this spring after 14 years in the mostly-Iowa league. WPU claimed a total of 41 conference and regional (wrestling only) titles over the past 14 campaigns.

Beginning this fall, the Statesmen will compete in the Heart of America Athletic Conference and be the second-most northern institution in the league (WPU had been the southern-most school in the MCC). Milder late-fall games and a much smaller chance of losing spring contests to snow delightfully await the navy and gold.

William Penn’s first action in the 12-team conference will be on the gridiron as the football team visits defending co-champion Missouri Valley on August 29. With the addition of WPU and rival Grand View, the HAAC may be considered the strong football league in the NAIA with six programs ranked last year.

Many other sports are also highly recognized on the national scene with men’s basketball at the forefront as the host of the NAIA Division I National Championships in Kansas City.

#1 Performance of the 2014-2015 Year

The best big-play man on William Penn’s football team takes the top honor on the 2014-2015 performance list.

Jatavius Stewart caught a load of long passes last fall, but none of his games were bigger than against Saint Xavier. The junior wide receiver hauled in six throws for 175 yards and went to the endzone four times. He also rushed once for a 38-yard touchdown.

Stewart’s five touchdowns ties a school record, while his four receiving scores are a new record. For the year, Stewart caught 13 passes for 337 yards and six touchdowns in the run-happy offensive attack. He also ran the ball 12 times for 167 yards and a TD.

#1 Video of the 2014-2015 Year

The #1 video of the 2014-2015 year comes courtesy of two brothers from Utah.

Senior football players Jake and Scott Adams dropped in for a candid and HILARIOUS interview last fall. The two fed off each other the entire time and made for easily the funniest spot of the season.
