Marjorie L. VerSteeg, 88, of Oskaloosa, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa. She was born Saturday, April 9, 1927, in New Ulm, Minnesota, the daughter of William and (Alma) Louise Schultz Wieland.

Following graduation from high school, Marjorie moved to Chicago and worked as a bookkeeper. While in Chicago, Marjorie met Leland VerSteeg and they were united in marriage on June 16, 1951 in Davenport. Leland died December 27, 2004. Following marriage, Marjorie stayed home to raise her kids. Later in life she went to work in the kitchen at New Sharon Care Center for several years.

Marjorie enjoyed going out to eat, traveling, going south for the winter and reading.

Her family includes her two daughters: Linda (& Terry) Welch of Oskaloosa and Vicki VerSteeg of New Sharon; two grandsons: James King and Bryon (& Ashley) Welch; and a great grandson: Jace Welch.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; two sons, Richard and Michael VerSteeg; and four brothers: Lowell, Gilbert, Michael and Neil Wieland.

Graveside services will be held Friday, July 24, 2015 at 11 AM in the Friends Cemetery south of New Sharon with Pastor Dave Brown officiating.
No visitation is planned at this time. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Omega Church in Oskaloosa.
