JOHN COGSWELL ANNOUNCES RUN FOR PRESIDENCY OF THE UNITED STATES

“Better leadership will give us better policy.” Cogswell said

URBANDALE, IOWA, USA – July 8, 2015 – On July 4, 2015, in Urbandale, Iowa, John Cogswell, a lawyer from Buena Vista, Colorado, announced his candidacy for President of the United States.

Mr. Cogswell, likening the Constitution to an old barn, said all other candidates were arguing over what color to paint the barn when the real issue is how to improve its weakening foundation.

“Better leadership will give us better policy.” Cogswell said, and then added, “Better leadership will not arrive until process amendments to the Constitution are made to diminish the influence of ambition and reelection in the formulation of public policy.”

Alluding to Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, Cogswell said the good leaders we have refuse to sing because they are disgusted with the polarization, gridlock and self-serving actions of current leaders.

Cogswell said his campaign was about process, not policy. He was running to remind the people that James Madison, a Founding Father of the Constitution, said we had a duty to take “the most effectual precautions” to keep our leaders wise and virtuous and yet we, as a people, have in fact failed to do this.

Cogswell asked all Iowans to vote for him to remind all Americans that the only solution to America’s problems is better leaders and that all other proposed solutions are a delusion to preserve the status quo. He also asked them to vote on his proposals at www.CampaignConstitution.com.

Cogswell concluded his comments by referring to President John F. Kennedy’s State of the Union address in 1963 and reminding us that the turbulence that then lied below the momentary calm of the sea and the storms that were then-beyond the horizon are now upon us. Cogswell said, “The constitutional reforms we need will not happen unless we, the people, make them happen by adopting process amendments to the Constitution to diminish the influence of ambition and insatiable desire for re-election”.

The announcement speech, recorded live at the Gazebo at Lion’s Park in Urbandale during Independence Day festivities, was released first on Facebook on our John Cogswell page at https://www.facebook.com/johnmarshallcogswell. It can, also, be viewed in the Media section of the Cogswell For President website at www.johncogswell.com or on the Campaign’s YouTube page. A more complete studio recording of John’s announcement speech can, also, be found at www.johncogswell.com along with a complete text of his speech as written.
