Christian Recording Artist Tim Timmons To Perform On Oskaloosa Square

Tim Timmons

Saturday, July 11th national Christian recording artist Tim Timmons will be performing a free concert on the Oskaloosa Square. In addition to the performance by Tim Timmons five local bands will be performing (featuring groups from Oskaloosa Friends, First Assembly of God, Vital Life, Fellowship Bible, and Central Reformed), There will also be a free Kid’s Zone presented by Mahaska Drug, a free climbing wall presented by the Iowa Army National Guard, and a variety of food vendors. All activities open at 5pm, which is when the first local band will also be taking the stage. The event will conclude around 9pm.

The idea for doing a major Christian concert on the square developed over a year ago at a meeting between representatives of the Oskaloosa Association of Churches (OAAC) and Main Street Oskaloosa. Andy Baker, then president of OAAC recalls that “at the time we were all very excited about the possibility of bringing a big family friendly event to the square during the summer. At the time, however, we just could not figure out a way to make such an event financially viable, as we figured the cost would be over $15,000.” Then this winter Kent Peterson, VP at Tru Bank, revived the idea in a meeting with local church leaders. Remembers Baker: “I told Kent that the churches would love to make an event happen if he could help us raise the money. In just under a month he was able to recruit over 35 local businesses to step up and sponsor the event. These sponsors are what are allowing us to offer this high of a level of entertainment for free.”

Tim Timmons is from California, where he served as the worship leader at one of the nation’s largest churches for over a decade. In 2013 he released his first solo album, Cast My Cares, which reached the top 20 of the Billboard Christian charts, and included radio charting hits Cast My Care and It Starts with Me. He has toured with major groups such as Mercy Me, David Crowder, and Big Daddy Weave. In addition to being a talented musician Tim has a powerful story to tell. A month after signing his first record deal Tim was diagnosed with an incurable form of cancer. When asked about how it is living with cancer Timmons responded: “I actually live as though I will be healed at some point, but in all of the craziness of cancer there is a gift. The gift through an incurable cancer, or any other sorrow we face, is perspective. And perspective is the gift that keeps on giving.” Timmons will share his story of living with cancer and how he is able to find comfort and joy everyday throughout his show, sharing hope with all those who have not only encountered cancer, but any feeling of hopelessness.
