Iowa Defeats Green Bay
Des Moines, IA – The Iowa Barnstormers (6-8) finish out the 2015 Indoor Football League season with a 38-32 victory versus the Green Bay Blizzard (6-8).
The Iowa Barnstormers started off the evening taking the Green Bay Blizzard by surprise. During the first possession of the game, the Barnstormers quickly made their way down the field to scoring position. Running back Robbie Rouse took the ball on the ground for Iowa’s first score of the night. Going for two, Johnny Thomas swept between the center and Rouse, playing at the quarterback position. With perfect timing, Thomas snagged the ball at the snap and snuck in to the end zone. Not able to convert on their next possession, Green Bay defensive back Jamie Bender stole an interception for a 39-yard touchdown return. Rounding out the first quarter, K Josh Gable booted a 42-yard field goal through the uprights. Green Bay Blizzard 6, Iowa Barnstormers 11.
In the second, the Green Bay Blizzard found their groove to narrow the scoreboard margin. Consecutive touchdowns by receivers Andrew London and Carl Sims brought the visiting team ahead by one touchdown score. Less than two minutes left in the half and Rouse was tasked with a 3-yard rushing touchdown. Breaking tackles, Rouse found the end zone while bringing down his defenders. Green Bay Blizzard 18, Iowa Barnstormers 18.
Coming out of the locker room, both teams had difficulty finding the end zone. Back and forth, the Blizzard tallied another Sims touchdown while the Barnstormers managed a 46-yard field goal by Gable. Green Bay Blizzard 24, Iowa Barnstormers 21.
As the evening advanced to the final quarter, the Barnstormers quickly knotted the score with yet another field goal. Sims’ third touchdown of the night helped bring the Blizzard back out in front with an 8-point lead. A long 37-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Taylor Genuser to receiver Johnny Thomas followed by rushing touchdown and 2-point conversion combo sealed the evening with a Barnstormers victory.
