Frances Ruth Rabenold, 90, of Montezuma, died Tuesday, June 16 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, the result of a fall she sustained on Sunday.

Ruth, as she was always known, was born in Montezuma on December 22, 1924, to Osman and Mildred Mason.

Ruth attended school in Montezuma, where she graduated with the Class of 1942. After high school Ruth worked as the secretary at Bob Brownell’s gunsmith business. It was Brownell who introduced her to future husband Dick Rabenold, and they were married on March 2, 1947. The couple had two children.

For more than 30 years Ruth worked in the family business, Rabenold’s Department Store. During this time, and later in life, Ruth was active in the community.

Ruth was a member of Ken Club, Mother’s Club, Monte Merchants, Presbyterian Women, and Community Fund.

Ruth loved family get-togethers, watching her grandsons play sports for PCM, shopping, playing cards with friends, and watching Hawkeye football and basketball in person or on TV.

Ruth is survived by her daughter, Jacki (& Joel) Grier of Monroe; a son, Dick (& Janis) Rabenold of Pleasant Hill; two grandsons: Brad (& Liz) Grier of Des Moines, Bret (& Alyssa) Grier of Prairie City; great grandchildren: Braden Grier, and Kenna and Jase Grier.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Barbara Heishman.

Funeral services will be held Friday, June 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church in Montezuma.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, June 18 from 5:00-7:00 at the First Presbyterian Evangelical Church.
Burial of the cremains will be in the Jackson Township Cemetery in Montezuma immediately following the service on Friday.
Memorials may be directed to either the church or the Presbyterian Family Center.
