(Ramona) Maxine “Mickey” Hart, 95, of Des Moines and formerly of Oskaloosa, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015 at her daughter’s home in Des Moines, where she had lived for the last six years.

Maxine was born Tuesday, February 3, 1920, in Barnes City, the daughter of Horace and Ulah Evans Ferguson.

Maxine graduated from Barnes City High School and attended William Penn College. In 1939, She was united in marriage to Lee Hart. To this union two children were born, Larry and Linda.

During her working career Maxine worked many places including Alsop’s, Mahaska Hospital and the Public Library in Oskaloosa. She also had a tea room in Oskaloosa called “The Hearth”.

Maxine loved antiquing with her friends and shared her cooking talents through the years. She was a very active person and will be missed by her many friends and family.

Maxine’s family includes her son, Larry (& Karen) Hart of Oskaloosa; her daughter, Linda (& Bill) McCarthy of Des Moines; four grandchildren: Brent Hart, Jason (& Jackie) Hart, Kevin (& Marcy) McCarthy and Kim McCarthy-Banks; four great grandchildren: Cameron Banks, Courtney Banks, Kennedy McCarthy and Jackson Hart; and a sister, Peggy Croft of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister and her husband: Betty and Bill Gallagher; a brother and his wife: Court and Mildred Ferguson; and a brother-in-law: Juan Croft.

A private family graveside service will be held at the Barnes City Cemetery at a later date.
No visitation is planned at this time. Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
