Keith Bryan DeRooi, 55, of Oskaloosa died Thursday, May 28, 2015, at the MHP Hospital in Oskaloosa. He was born July 23, 1959, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of John W. and Gladys Pothoven DeRooi.

Keith graduated 8th grade from Oskaloosa Christian Grade School and went on to graduate from Pella Christian High School with the class of 1977. On September 3, 1982, he was united in marriage to Valerie Rhoads at Oskaloosa. To this union a son Tyler John was born.

Keith was a farmer and took great pride in keeping a well maintained farm and being a good steward of the land. He was also a talented carpenter and woodworker. He enjoyed making furniture and remodeling homes.

He was a member of Good News Chapel in Oskaloosa where he had served as a deacon and was currently serving as an elder.

His family includes his wife of over 32 years, Valerie DeRooi of Oskaloosa; his son and his fiancée, Tyler DeRooi & Nicole Oaks; his parents, John W. and Gladys DeRooi of Oskaloosa; a sister, Valerie Duke of Cedar Rapids; three brothers, Kent DeRooi, Robert (& Kandi) DeRooi, and Jeff DeRooi all of Oskaloosa; his mother in law, Linda Rhoads of Oskaloosa; brothers and sisters in law: Jeff (& Linda) Rhoads of Las Vegas, Nevada and Kim (& Lee) Fite of Oskaloosa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Joseph & Effie DeRooi and Otto & Effie Pothoven; his father in law, Carl “Bub” Rhoads; and a niece, Elizabeth Rhoads.

Visitation will begin Monday after 1 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa the family will be at the church on Monday afternoon from 5-8 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
A family prayer service will be at 1:45 Tuesday afternoon in the basement of the church.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at 2 p.m. in the First Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Keith DeRooi Memorial Fund.
