Simmons, Edwards Honored as Scholar-Athletes

Oskaloosa–Alora Simmons (Jr., Newton, Iowa, Elementary Education) and Alex Edwards (Sr., Knoxville, Iowa, Elementary Education) were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2014-2015 Daktronics-NAIA Track and Field Scholar-Athletes Friday.

Simmons owned a 3.76 Grade Point Average entering this spring, while Edwards had a 3.54 GPA. They were among a list of 737 track and field athletes (450 women, 287 men) from within the NAIA to be awarded the laurel. The honor is the first for both student-athletes.

To be eligible for the award, athletes must be of at least junior academic standing, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, and have attended the nominating institution for at least one full academic year.
