Jeneane Dykstra, 83, of Oskaloosa died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. Jeneane was born July 9, 1931, in Sigourney the daughter of Olaf and Christina Ollinger Maughan.

Jeneane graduated from Oskaloosa High School with the class of 1949. On April 10, 1950, she was united in marriage to Melvin E. Dykstra at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa.

Early in their marriage Jeneane stayed home to care for her family. When her youngest child started Kindergarten, Jeneane went to work at the Mahaska County Auditor’s office. She later moved to the Treasurer’s office and she became a deputy in the Auto department. She then transferred back to the Auditor’s office and retired from there in 1985.

In retirement Jeneane and Melvin enjoyed ten winters in Apache Junction, Arizona. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oskaloosa. She was also very involved with the Central Committee of the Democratic Party.

Jeneane enjoyed camping with the family, knitting, crocheting, and pretty punch. She and Melvin also enjoyed square and round dancing. She delighted in spending time with her family.

Her family includes her husband of over 65 years, Melvin Dykstra of Oskaloosa; four children: Terry (& Peggy) Dykstra of Oskaloosa, Jane (& Richard) Dykstra-Moe of Provo, Utah, Daniel (& Grace) Dykstra of Irvine, California, and Becky Dykstra of Oskaloosa; six grandchildren: Michael, Tiffany, Kristina, Chanelle, Desiree, and Dana; and five great grandchildren: Dylan, Dawson, Daxton, Kambrey and Skyleigh.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Olaf and Christina; a sister and her husband, Mary and Jerry Tharp.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 18, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa with Reverend Jeff Belger and Reverend Mark Jicinsky officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Mary’s Cemetery in Oskaloosa. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Visitation will begin Sunday after 11 a.m. in the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 1-3 Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives.
Memorials may be made to Stephen’s Memorial Animal Shelter.
