Red Moothart, 94 of Grinnell and formerly of New Sharon, passed away Sunday morning, May 10, 2015 at his home in Grinnell.

Irwin “Red” Leon Moothart, the son of Guy and Margarette (Flemming) Moothart, was born on February 12, 1921 in Wellman, Iowa.

Red graduated from Wellman High School. Following high school, Red was drafted in the United States Army serving four years during World War II. On August 20, 1949, Red was united in marriage to Wanda Maxwell at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To this union two sons were born, Mike and Steve.

Red farmed in the New Sharon area. He was also a carpenter and worked for the New Sharon and Taintor Lumberyards.

Red was an avid fisherman, and he also enjoyed hunting, playing cards, bowling and spending time with his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Red was a member of the Coffin-Miller American Legion Post #446 in New Sharon.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda of Grinnell; his two sons: Mike (& Diane) Moothart of New Sharon and Steve (& Penny) Moothart of New Sharon; seven grandchildren: Chris Moothart, Tammy (& Kristofer) Sauer, Craig (& Sarah) Moothart, Gene (& Jaime) Moothart, Michelle (& Will) Playle, B.J. Smith, and Blayne Bartlett; and eight great grandchildren, Shyanne, Destiny, Aidan, Riley, Kirk, Hunter, Summer and Clayton.

Red was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Harold and Bob

As was his wish, his body has been cremated and no services are planned.
