Rex “Rick” Evans, 60, of Beacon passed away Thursday morning, April 30, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.
Rex H. Evans, son of Richard “Dick” and Mary Lou (Thomas) Evans, was born May 17, 1954, in Bossier City, LA while his father was stationed there in the Air Force.
Rick was a 1973 graduate of Oskaloosa High School. Rick married Tanja Ann Shafranek in 1978, and to that union three sons were born. They divorced in 2002.
Rick lived and worked in the Oskaloosa area, Wisconsin and later in and around Des Moines. Rick operated a dragline/heavy equipment for most of his working years. Some of his fondest memories were from running a dragline at coal companies in and around Oskaloosa.
He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, boating and his grandchildren.
Rick is survived by his three sons: Ben Evans of Rose Hill, Jeremy Evans (& Whitney Perdue) of Oskaloosa, and Michael Evans of Oskaloosa; two grandchildren: Amaurie McCullough and Zakary Evans of Oskaloosa; his mother, Mary Lou Evans of Beacon; a sister, Cathy Evans of Beacon; a brother, Richard “Dickie” Evans of Oskaloosa; and his ex-wife, Tanja Evans of Rose Hill.
He was preceded in death by his father, Richard “Dick” Evans of Beacon; a brother, Mike Evans of Knoxville; maternal grandparents: Harold and Effie (Hols) Thomas; and paternal grandparents, June Hogate and Rex Edward Evans.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 4, 2015, at Garland-Van Arkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Alvern Boetsma of the Good News Chapel officiating.
Cremation will follow the service.
Burial of his ashes will be held privately in Beacon Cemetery.
Visitation will begin at 11 a.m., Sunday at the funeral chapel; the family will be present from 2-4 p.m. to greet visitors.
Memorials may be made to the family and will be designated at a later time.
