Marie Ross, 92, of What Cheer, died Sunday, April 26, 2015 at Mahaska Health Partnership in Oskaloosa. Marie Elizabeth Ross was born May 20, 1922 on a farm near Sigourney, Iowa the daughter of Robert and Emma Bell Curry Shultz.

Marie attended country school until the eighth grade. Marie helped with the canning and household chores with her mother.

Marie was united in marriage to George E. Ross on November 3, 1941 in Lancaster, MO. They lived near Thornburg until moving to the country south of What Cheer where they made their home for over fifty years. When George went to the service she moved back with her parents until he returned home.

Marie was a house wife and helped in the fields with crops. She enjoyed her flower beds and gardening, but above all she enjoyed the company of others, especially her family. Marie was always happy and willing to lend a helping hand with anything.

She is survived by two sons: Richard (& Sandra) Ross of Oskaloosa and Donald (& Rosemary) Ross of What Cheer; a brother, LaVerne Schultz of Sigourney; two granddaughters: Jodi (& David) Markham of Gibson and Deanna (& Mark) Dugger of Wayland; two grandsons: Jesse (& Diane) Ross of Des Moines, and Justin Ross of What Cheer; four great grandchildren: Whitney (& Jeremy) Krumm of Thornburg, Taylor Markham of Gibson, Keith (& Keely) Dugger of Wayland and Morgan Dugger of Wayland; two great-great grandsons, Easton and Braxton Krumm; as well as a third great-great grandchild on the way.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George Ross; three brothers: Willie Schultz, Earl Schultz and an infant; two sisters: Pearl Schultz and infant Dorthea Schultz; two sisters-in-law, Lola Schultz and Dorothy Schultz; and a great granddaughter Rachel Markham.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer.
Burial will be held in the Highland Cemetery at What Cheer.
Visitation begins at noon on Tuesday with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 pm.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the What Cheer Fire & Rescue.
