With spring time, comes garage sale time. The Oskaloosa Police Department would like to remind residents that you cannot place, attach, secure, post or construct an advertisement or informational sign on public property within the city limits of Oskaloosa without prior approval and permit from the city of Oskaloosa. This would include garage sale, yard sale, graduation, party, wedding, etc. signs. This also includes attaching signs to road signs in the city.

If a sign is located, it will be removed immediately without notice and the owner or individual who placed the sign can be charged with a state nuisance violation or zoning ordinance infraction. The applicable codes ae listed below.

State code – 321.259: PLACING AN ADVERTISEMENT UPON A STREET SIGN. The governing authority has the right to remove the sign immediately without notice and it is declared a public nuisance and an individual could be charged with an aggravated misdemeanor

City of Oskaloosa ordnance – 17.30.030 C – PROHIBITED SIGNS.
